Care Guide

Good cotton gets softer with every wash. A little care keeps your bedding fresh, holds its colour and helps it last for years. Always check the care label on your product too, as it has the final word.

Washing

Before first use

Wash new bedding once before you use it. It softens the fabric and rinses away any finishing from the mill.

Water and cycle

Use a gentle cycle in cool or lukewarm water, up to 40°C. Very hot washes can shrink cotton and fade colours.

Detergent

A mild liquid detergent is best. Skip bleach and fabric softener, which weaken cotton fibres and leave a coating that makes fabric less breathable.

Colours

Wash darker shades like Navy, Maroon, Chocolate and Mocha Brown separately for the first few washes, then with similar colours after that.

Do not overload the machine. Bedding needs room to move so it rinses clean and comes out with fewer creases.

Drying

  • Line dry in the shade. Strong direct sun can fade colours over time.
  • If you use a dryer, choose a low heat setting and take bedding out while it is still slightly damp.
  • Give sheets and pillowcases a good shake before hanging to cut down on creases.

Ironing

  • Percale: for that crisp, hotel feel, iron on a medium to hot setting while the fabric is still slightly damp.
  • Sateen: iron on a low to medium setting on the reverse side to protect its soft sheen.
  • Prefer a relaxed look? Smooth sheets flat by hand as soon as they come off the line and skip the iron.

Storing

  • Make sure bedding is completely dry before you put it away.
  • Store it in a cool, dry, airy cupboard. Avoid plastic bags, which trap moisture. A cotton bag or a spare pillowcase works well.
  • Keep two sets per bed and rotate them so each one lasts longer.

Stains

Treat spills as soon as you can. Rinse the stain from the back with cold water, then wash as usual. Avoid hot water on fresh stains, as heat can set them.

Cushions, pillows and bags

Follow the care label on each product. As a general rule, remove covers before washing where possible, spot clean or hand wash gently, and dry flat in the shade.
